James was appointed Green Party Co-leader in 2015, after being elected to Parliament as a list MP in 2014. Following the 2017 general election, James was appointed Minister of Climate Change, Minister of Statistics and Associate Minister of Finance.
James grew up in Wellington’s Aro Valley and before becoming an MP had a successful career in management consulting, primarily in London, where he worked with large multinationals developing sustainable business practices. He has a Master’s degree in sustainable development and business leadership.
James brings his diverse experience to his roles – from working with multinational corporates through to local start-ups and community organisations.
James believes that, with vision and purpose, politicians can bring the large-scale, transformational change that is needed to build a truly inclusive economy, and a healthier planet. It might be the biggest challenge of a generation, but James also sees it as the greatest opportunity: he wants New Zealand to lead the way and show the world how it’s done.
