Ellie Lock joined Contact Energy over two years ago as one of the drilling & project engineers working on the Tauhara Power Station. Originally from Perth, Australia, Lock is now based in the beautiful central North Island and calls Taupō her second home. She says there is a lot to love about the mahi she does and the people she works with. One of her biggest highlights is being able to make a direct difference to New Zealand’s renewable energy goals. She gets to develop, drill and test new geothermal wells which will deliver continuous clean energy to the market.
Lock has a passion for continuous improvement, mentoring and small experiments. Being able to directly influence the outcome of a well’s drilling performance by trialling new technologies and processes is one of her favourite things about the job. She is also incredibly passionate about seeing the younger generation get inspired by renewable energy, getting involved with the school holiday programs, internships and graduate opportunities that are offered.
Her goal is to continue down this path at Contact Energy and develop further skills in leadership so she can see the younger generation of engineers grow. There is a lot to learn over the new few years and she would love to be a part of it.
